USTA Middle States: Philadelphia District No. 1
Lazar Dokov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and came to the United States as a young boy. His father, Neno Dokov, also a professional tennis coach taught him the game and developed him as a player. As a junior, Lazar secured the No.1 ranking in every age division in the USTA Middle States: Philadelphia District.
Lazar played in his first professional tournament on the ITF Pro Circuit in his native Bulgaria in 2015, when he was 18 years old. Within his first three Futures tournaments, he managed to reach the final round of qualifying twice, defeating his first ATP-ranked player in the process.
Lazar has competed in ITF Pro Circuit events in Belgium, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, and here in the United States. Most recently, he played four Futures tournaments in Belgium in August 2018.
Apart from his role as a player, Lazar is also a filmmaker and is the director of the Operation Liftoff YouTube Channel, which is a professional tennis vlog/documentary. The channel followed the career of Alexander Donski, Lazar's cousin as well as a rising professional tennis player that reached that top 100 of the ITF Junior rankings in 2016 and reached the final round of qualifying at the 2016 Junior US Open. The channel content took place in Southeastern Europe from October 2016 to September 2017 and explains many of the struggles professional players must deal with and offers insight into life on the pro tour seen nowhere else. Lazar wrote, shot, directed edited, and produced the channel entirely on his own, learning from the process itself. Apart from creating video content for the channel, Lazar also served as a coach and hitting partner for his cousin.
