AboutVictor
Victor Urzua found his niche in tennis the moment he decided to focus on coaching instead of competing. Victor learned how to play from his father at a young age and advanced his skills to compete on the junior tournament circuit, where he was exposed to the coaching world.
At 15 years old he assisted a local head coach after taking up a part-time summer position teaching children in the 10 and Under Tennis program. For the next couple of years as a junior, he continued to fine tune his coaching and playing skills while he prepared to compete on the intercollegiate team at York University in Toronto, Canada where he received a bachelor's degree in economics.
As he coached and competed throughout the fall, spring and summer seasons, Victor grew a keen interest in taking his coaching career further and obtained a sports management certificate from Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1996 he became a coach at Upper Dublin Sports Center and for the past two decades has worked throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area. He has worked at IMG, Manufacturers Golf and County Club and at the Julian Krinsky School of Tennis. According to Urzua, one of the most important tennis discoveries during all of his experiences in the tennis world, is that tennis is not only about competing against the opponent but about competing with yourself.
